Maserati Merak SS

SOLD

Finished in the original colour combination of Blue Sera (dark metallic) with white leather.

This, the lightened and more powerful Merak SS was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1976. Recognizable by the black grille between the pop-up headlights and a Maserati designed upper fascia with round instruments replaced the much disliked previous Citroen SM-derived interior trim.

Being one of the very last examples produced, this has the full driver-oriented dashboard and three-spoke padded steering wheel of the Maserati Bora. It featured a 50 kg weight reduction over the earlier, standard model and thanks to the three larger 44 DCNF 44 carburetors and a higher compression ratio power was increased to 217bhp. This example, chassis number AM122/A663 was produced in May 1982 and then delivered via the official distributor from factory to its South African owner in July 1982.

Although a 2 + 2 seater model, the Merak silhouette displays all the hallmarks of a 2 seater coupe.

Purchased by a Swiss collector in August 2001, the car was shipped to Switzerland where it formed part of a collection. In July 2005 he drove it from Switzerland to attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed where the last owner saw and fell in love with the car, he kept in touch with the owner and purchased it later that year, again the car was driven from Switzerland back to the UK where it was registered.

Since being in the UK it has been looked after by Merak gurus Bill McGrath Maserati and has £21,462 of bills and invoices for maintenance and light restoration work carried out by them. Drives, handles and presents very well inside and out.

Complete with Original Handbook and a fitted and tailored car cover.

Showing and a believed genuine 24,395 miles (39,258kms) this is an excellent, low owner and no expense spared, maintained example.
